Cut-off Point for BECE School Placement

2 min read

The school placement cut-off point has been declared by the management of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), as it prepares to reveal the 2021 school postings of candidates who took the BECE last year.

A CSSPS staff member told EducationWeb on Friday that while there is no clear cut-off point for school placement, his organization will not put BECE pupils who scored a 9 in English Language or Mathematics this year.

“We don’t have a clear cut-off point for the computer school placement; the only cut-off point we have is when a kid receives an aggregate 9 in English Language or Mathematics,” he explained.

According to a CSSPS official, school placement is determined by a candidate’s performance in six areas: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, and two extra best-performed topics.

“So the policy guideline for the Computerized School Selection and Placement System is that if you receive a grade 9 in English Language or Mathematics, which are sufficient to qualify you for placement, you will not get school,” he explained to the Web.

When asked what steps his organization has taken to ensure a smooth school placement process this year, the CSSPS colleague replied the school placement platform has been improved to handle a large volume of traffic.

“This year’s BECE graduates will verify their secondary school placement solely via https://cssps.gov.gh.” He said, “We can promise children and the general public that there will be no downtime during the school screening process.”

The Ministry of Education’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kwasi Kwarteng, said on national television on Monday that the 2021 Senior High School placement process has reached a final stage and will be released as soon as feasible.

The spokesman said the School Selection and Placement System, Ghana Education Service, Ghana TVET Service, and Free SHS Secretariat are all working together on the children’ school placements in an interview with EducationWeb.

BECE students, parents, and members of the general public should expect provisional school placement results to be released between now and March 21, 2022, according to a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Education.

When asked how many 2021 students will be placed this year to benefit from the Free SHS, the Deputy Spokesman for the Ministry of Education, Yaw Opoku Mensah, said his department is working to place all students who took the exam.

Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, announced last week that all qualified pupils will be placed in the Free SHS program, allowing them to get a free secondary school education.
